Research
Before you start doing anything you will need to decide who you’re going to target. The ideal candidates won’t be hugely popular because you won’t be able to get anywhere near them, but you definitely want to go after people more popular than you. This is easy to figure out because they’ll have a lot more followers, but don’t forget those numbers can be artificially inflated. Check their Klout score before putting them on your target list because it will let you know if they’re worth it or not.
Stalk
After you’ve locked onto a target you’ll need to start following them. Try to pay attention to everything they tweet because it could come in handy further down the line. You want to know what they’re most interested in because this is how you’re going to make first contact with them. If you want to be thorough you can write everything down so you’ll never run out of things to say. Once you’ve passed the stalker stage with flying colors you can move onto the next one.
Communicate
Eventually you’ll need to start communicating with them because they need to know you’re alive. By now you’ve got lots of information about their interests, so why don’t you study up on them so you can have a genuine conversation about those subjects. The next time they talk about a specific interest you should jump in with something positive to say. Keep doing this on a constant basis and they’ll appreciate you, but make sure you never disagree with them or it will blow up in your face.
Befriend
By now they know who you are and they mistakenly think you’re into the same things as them. This is your chance to befriend them. Find great articles and let them know about them. Retweet absolutely everything they tweet even if you don’t agree with it. Tell them you’re their biggest fan until they finally start to pay real attention to you. Ask them to spend a few minutes checking out your site and if they do it means you’re officially Twitter friends and you can roll around your hardwood floor in excitement.
Use
All the hard work is finally over and now it’s time to use them in order to become successful. You’ve spend weeks learning everything you can about them, so why shouldn’t you get rewarded for your efforts? Every time you publish a new post you should ask them to tweet it to all their followers. Ask them to read every article you publish so they can give you some pointers to improve them. They’re putty in your hands now because you’re Twitter friends which is one of the strongest bonds in the world.
